Mamadou Fall to FC Barcelona?

Barcelona is in advanced talks on a deal to sign center back Mamadou Fall from LAFC, sources familiar with the deal tell The Athletic.

The deal would be a loan with a purchase option, but it is not done yet. The Spanish transfer window closes Friday night.

Villarreal is also working on a deal for Fall, who spent last year on loan with the club’s second team.

The 20-year-old is among the most highly-rated young players in MLS after returning from the loan with Villarreal, where he made one La Liga appearance. He was a regular with the club’s second team, playing 25 games.

The Senegalese center back broke through with LAFC in 2021 and has made 42 appearances with the MLS side. He has made three first-team appearances this summer on his return to LAFC.

LAFC currently sits second in the Western Conference with 40 points after 25 matches. They are the reigning MLS Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup champions.

It wouldn’t be the first time Barcelona has signed a player from MLS this year if a deal gets done, after picking up Mexico international right back Julian Araujo from the LA Galaxy in the winter. He’s currently on loan at Las Palmas.
